Origin

Ried Hundschupfen / Mailberg / Weinviertel
Picturesquely surrounded by mountains, the market town of Mailberg nestles in a natural basin. The slopes around Mailberg are planted with vineyards – including Mailberg's most important and best-known site, the Ried Hundschupfen. On this sandy, loess-covered south-facing slope, the grapes can ripen slowly well into autumn thanks to the long hours of sunshine. In addition, the special microclimate created by the wind-protected basin location gives the wines a very individual character – especially the flagship Grüner Veltliner grape variety.
Sovereign Order of the Knights of Malta
The castle winery Souveräner Malteser Ritterorden is located about 70 kilometers northwest of Vienna, near the Czech border in a small valley called “Mailberg Valley”. The Lenz Moser winery has been cultivating the 50 hectares of vineyards since 1969.
Sovereign Order of the Knights of Malta

For more than 20 years now, winery manager Norbert Gutmayer has accompanied the estate’s wines from the vineyard to bottling. Quality comes before quantity, so the yields per hectare are deliberately kept low in order to harvest particularly aromatic, fully ripe grapes.
