Origin

Mailberg / Wine Country
Surrounded by picturesque mountains, the market town of Mailberg nestles in a natural basin. The slopes around Mailberg are mostly planted with vineyards. The soils in Mailberg are calcareous and covered with loamy sands and loess. Around 1,800 hours of sunshine per year and average annual rainfall of 450 mm provide ideal conditions for winegrowing. The fresh continental climate in the northern Weinviertel region and the wind-protected location of the vineyards in the small valley give the wines a very individual character, which was responsible for their fame hundreds of years ago.
Sovereign Order of the Knights of Malta
The castle winery Souveräner Malteser Ritterorden is located about 70 kilometers northwest of Vienna, near the Czech border in a small valley called “Mailberg Valley”. The Lenz Moser winery has been cultivating the 50 hectares of vineyards since 1969.
Sovereign Order of the Knights of Malta

For more than 20 years now, winery manager Norbert Gutmayer has accompanied the estate’s wines from the vineyard to bottling. Quality comes before quantity, so the yields per hectare are deliberately kept low in order to harvest particularly aromatic, fully ripe grapes.
