Origin

Ried Hundschupfen / Mailberg / Weinviertel

The market town of Mailberg nestles into a natural basin in a picturesque setting surrounded by mountains. The slopes surrounding Mailberg are planted with terraces – as is the most important and well-known location in Mailberg, Ried Hundschupfen.

On this sandy, loess-covered south-facing slope, the grapes are able to ripen well into autumn thanks to the long hours of sunshine. In addition, the special micro-climate gives the wines a very individual character – in particular the prominent variety of Grüner Veltliner – due to the basin location, which provides shelter from the wind.

Winery
Malteser-Ritter-Orden
Roughly 70 kilometres to the north west of Vienna, near the border with the Czech Republic in a little valley by the name of “Mailberg Valley”, lies the Castle Winery of the Sovereign Maltese Knight Order.
